About Us

Friends of Woodberry Down manage an over fifty’s coffee and activity morning two days per week on the Woodberry Down Estate.   We were established in October 2005 and have a growing membership of adults both men and women.   We are a user-led community group providing activities to combat social isolation in Woodberry Down and surrounding areas.

We have a strong management committee consisting of older people aged 50 years and over and hold regular meetings to discuss our activities and the projects we manage, an provide a place for older people to meet, make friends and build relationships and by doing so create a sense of family and community.

We help older people stay fit and healthy by offering a programme of exercise and group singing to stimulate cognitive functions.  Members have the opportunity to socialise, take part in creative activities and share a meal together.

We organise day trips so older people can explore the seaside and the natural environment outside of London. Our trips are affordable and we invite the local community to join us.

We offer a weekly Food Surplus Project, distributing groceries to older people to prevent food waste.

We work in partnership with Our Lady’s Convent High School, students befriend older people and assist with our many activities, breaking down barriers between the age groups and building the confidence to communicate. Students develop a positive and healthy attitude towards older people and aging.

Our members gain a sense of fulfilment from taking part in our activities and regularly attend due to our vibrant atmosphere.
